Events

The taxi industry in South Africa plays a crucial role in the transportation of commuters, with over 15 million people relying on it daily, according to the Statistics SA 2020 Household Survey. However, the industry is informal and in need of regulation and formalization. The South African government has initiated a host of initiatives to make the industry viable and free of violence.

With Government’s best laid out plans and wishes for the taxi industry, its formalization and professionalization will ultimately rest at the feet of the taxi industry itself.

Re-shaping the future of the taxi industry must be guided by the industry’s commitment to implement practical and achievable business practices, that would truly change the fortunes of the industry in a meaningful way. South Africa’s taxi industry is estimated to generate an excess of R50 billion per annum, and unfortunately still remains a consumer rather than an owner and a driver of its own value chain.

The aim of this Indaba is to gather major role players within the taxi industry under the same roof to discuss pertinent issues that affect the taxi industry such as:

· Unpacking practical and realistic investment opportunities that are available within the taxi industry value chain.
